Behind the jewellery

I'm Charlotte, a goldsmith from Pembrokeshire who finds inspiration in the ancient woodlands, the ocean, and the tales woven into the fabric of Welsh folklore.
My journey as a goldsmith has been a deeply personal one.
My first encounter with jewellery making was as an apprentice with Alan Houghton in Fishguard, learning basic saw piercing and hand filing techniques.
I then went on to study in Birmingham's prestigious school of jewellery where I achieved a BA in traditional jewellery techniques and business studies. But I’d say most of my skills were learnt at Diana Porter in Bristol where I honed my skills and worked my way up through the years to become a goldsmith for the company.

In my workshop in Pembrokeshire I bring my visions to life through the intricate art of hand-carving wax.
This meticulous process allows me to sculpt and manipulate wax to replicate organic forms and textures found in nature into tangible, wearable art.

One of my favourite ways of working is to use gemstones that are cast in place within the wax model, and then burnt out leaving a embellished gold treasure.
I carefully select gemstones that complement the rugged and natural aesthetic I strive for in my designs. This casting method not only adds a unique dimension to the jewellery but also enhances the connection between the wearer and the raw beauty of the materials.
